Your layers appear in the Layers palette, as shown in Figure 3-1. You can create any number of new layers in the program and each adds one new step between you and the underlying image. You can use the tools in the right side of the toolbar or move your cursor around the image and type in the editing command at that location.Īs in Photoshop, you can use multiple layers as a step by step editing technique in the program. Photoshop Elements provides a user interface with a toolbar that’s similar to that of the more advanced version.
Photoshop Elements 5 offers you many tutorials and some great tools for editing photos. This newer version of Photoshop is updated to include many of the effects in the older version - only updated and expanded, and with much more advanced features. However, when it comes to small projects and effects, editing photos from scratch using Photoshop’s tools is far less useful than using its smaller sibling, Photoshop Elements. Photoshop is best for doing large jobs like making huge retouching jobs, creating composites, and enlarging and cropping images. While Photoshop is and has always been a very powerful tool, the Adobe program is so large that many people simply don’t need to use it. Not only can the same effects that video professionals use be applied in Photoshop, but it can be done on a PC or Mac without having to purchase expensive and complex video editing software.
